Best News Platforms
Information is everywhere; however, what information is correct and accurate? How do we stay updated and how do we know the information we read is accurate? The platform one acquires their news from is vital in determining accuracy and relevancy. Likewise, fact checking information, although tedious, can stop falsehoods from spreading. Some news platforms are more political than others and some are not as formal and include subject matter that is not newsworthy, but rather entertaining. In academia, I have found the following news platforms helpful:
The New York Times
I enjoy this news channel because it is trustworthy and renowned. Many professors suggest this news platform for its accuracy and non-bias statements. A handy quality this news platform offers is the iPhone "News" application, which allows people to be updated through their phone widgets.
The Skimm
This news platform is not as traditional as the others; however, it provides daily information through email to its subscribers. It is a fairly recent platform, having started in 2012, but it earns it's spot on the list for it's clear organization and modern twist on news delivery.
BBC News
This website gives information clearly and is known for being reliable. BBC News stands for British Broadcasting Company. I like to research topics here first and then move from there to other news channels. Similar to The New York Times, BBC News can be found on iPhone widgets and has its own application as well.
The Washington Post
The Washington Post is a good news website for its factuality; however, after using it for such a long time I have noticed it can have political undertones that take away from the content. I prefer my news to be unbiased so that I can make a judgment without many outside influences.
PBS News
PBS News is a great platform to discover correct and unbiased news. It has a broadcasting segment that delivers information in a professional way. Many people trust this platform more than others, and I would credit that its unbiased opinions and lack of political innuendos.
