Foldable Phones & Critical Thinking

Folding Phones or Baby Ipads?

Recently, the leading phone producers have launched ideas of foldable phones. Companies such as Apple and Samsung have wowed crowds with their designs. The photo above shows Samsung's new product called the Galaxy Fold, an item that costs a whopping $1,980. Apple is not far behind, introducing a similar product but with applications and features exclusively made by Apple.

Why does this matter? It is introducing a new product to the public that can have many uses. The product resembles a mix of a laptop and a smartphone. Now, you might think "that's what a tablet is," but this product is more than that. This product will flood the market because people can use it for so many things. The larger screen will allow those with eye issues more accessibility. Likewise, people can pack a smaller device to take notes during events and lectures.

The Point

The technological boom has been booming forever, and this product only suggests that it will only continue. This product won't benefit everyone, but the point is that products will only continue to be launched even when there is no specific need or when the need is minuscule. In my opinion, it's somewhat scary. With a world suffocating with pollution, why do we need such products? What will happen with the ones previously made? Yes, this is helping people communicate better but to what cost? That question should haunt all of us.
